At Eagle Vale High School, students have the opportunity to participate in the vocational education and training (VET) Entertainment course as an elective in Years 11 and 12.
Entertainment is a two-unit course that can be counted towards a student's ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank). By successfully completing the course, students will also be credited with units of competency towards a Certificate III in live production and services. Students, who complete one extra unit of study, can qualify for the full Certificate III. This qualification is recognised throughout Australia.
The Entertainment course looks at the technical production. There are four main components within technical production: Audio, which incorporates live sound reinforcement, microphone types and usage, audio signals and passive and active systems; stage lighting, including colour mixing, lantern types, moving and intelligent lights and special effects; vision systems, students will learn to operate cameras, vision mixers and projectors, as well as look at projection mapping and special events such as the vivid festival; staging, where students will learn about stage directions, different types of scenery and platforms and knots, hitches and pulley systems.
The entertainment course has a strong practical focus, where all technical knowledge is incorporated into real life scenarios. Students will gain real industry experience through both external work placement and working school events such as the Campbelltown Youth Week concert, fisher's ghost heats and school events such as assemblies, showcases and awards nights.
