Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

Special Religious Education (SRE) Participation in 2019

A feature of the public education system in NSW is the opportunity to provide time in class for education in ethics, faith and morality from a religious or non-religious perspective at the choice of parents.  In accordance with Department of Education policy, SRE classes will again be offered to Year 7 and Year 8 students of Eagle Vale High School in 2019.

Inter-denominational Christian classes will be delivered by Mr Simon Owen once per fortnight on Thursdays throughout the year, organised by core classes on a rotating timetable.  Mr Owen has had extensive experience teaching SRE and has also completed Theological studies. He will be teaching on behalf of the local churches of Campbelltown (approved providers are: Anglican Diocese of Sydney, Baptist Union of NSW and Presbyterian Church of Australia NSW).  Mr Owen has been authorised by the Campbelltown Area High Schools Ministry Board to deliver the Think Faith curriculum.  Further information about the SRE program is available from the website https://whysre.com.au  SRE timetables will be published for students and parents prior to the start of lessons each term, and posted on the school’s website and via SkoolBag App.

A parent/carer may at any time notify the school in writing that they wish to change their decision about whether or not their child participates in SRE.  Any notification of a change is to be forwarded to the attention of Mrs Kerrie Leon, the School-based SRE Coordinator.  Students in Year 8 will continue the same arrangement as the previous year, unless a parent/carer requests a change in writing.

For more information about Special Religious Education (SRE), including the list of approved providers, please visit: https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/learning-across-the-curriculum/religion-and-ethics

Students who do not attend SRE lessons are given supervised alternative meaningful activities during the allocated SRE lesson time.
