Music

At Eagle Vale High School, students are given the opportunity to participate in innovative music programs that promote creativity and curiosity. Students will learn about the concepts of music and how they can be used to work out how their favourite music is put together and why they like it so much.

Students will learn a range of instruments including ukulele, keyboard, guitar and percussion. They will also take part in composing music both using traditional notation and using computer-based sequencing and recording software.

Students at Eagle Vale High School have access to some of the best musical resources in the state. The music teaching staff at Eagle Vale High School are committed to delivering comprehensive music lessons that challenge and inspire students to achieve their own personal best, through the use of traditional and modern teaching strategies.

Stage 4

In Year 7 and 8 music, students will explore a wide variety of musical styles and topics including; Instruments of the orchestra, film music, electronic music and pop music. As well as this, students will be introduced to the ukulele, keyboards and guitar. Students will learn the basics of music composition and take part in composing electronic music as well as music for film. This course is designed for students with little to no knowledge of music, but is also challenging enough to cater for those who have a musical background.

Stage 5

The Stage 5 music course aims to build on the skills and knowledge developed by students in the stage 4 course. Students are introduced to traditional and non-traditional methods of notating music and take part in a variety of composition activities. Students will build aural skills in relation to the six concepts of music as a means to discuss how music is constructed and as a precursor to the stage 6 music course.

Stage 6

Students who elect to take part in senior music will continue to build on the foundations of Stage 4 and 5 music. Students will study a wide range of topics, determined by both teacher and students. Students are offered more flexibility in choosing performance material and direction of study as is relevant to their skills and interests. Students who complete stage 6 music will have developed a significant musical vocabulary and analysis skills that will equip them for the HSC and further musical study.
